MS WINDOWS
It’s a graphical user interfaces that allows users to communicate with the computers system.
Versions of Ms Windows

WINDOW-it’s a working area on the screen set aside for specific function.
DESKTOP-it’s the part of computer that contains the working area, icons, taskbar and start button.
FEATURES OF THE DESKTOP
ICON:-it’s a pictorial representation of a program or file on the desktop.
TASKBAR-it’s a ribbon which appear at the bottom of a screen that holds all open application programs start button, time and hidden icons.
Recycle bin- it holds any deleted files, folders and data. Can also be retrieved by restoring them.
My computer-it’s used for changing and setting computers configuration.
Start button-once clicked it displays a list of start menus for navigating through the computer.
Menu-a list of options/commands from where you can choose any one of them.
Mouse-it’s a pointing device that is used for selecting commands into a computer.
MOVING A WINDOW/DRAGGING
Click on the tittle bar
Hold down the left mouse button and move the mouse
Left click-pressing the left mouse button,
Double clicking-pressing the left mouse button twice to perform function.
Dragging-holding down the left mouse button without release and move.








Parts of a window
Maximizing button {    }   -helps to enlarge the size of the current window to occupy the whole desktop.
Minimizing button {      ]-it takes the current program to the taskbar and not close it.
Restore down button        -helps to reduce the size of the current window to occupy the portion of desktop.
Vertical scrolling bar-It helps to scroll the page up or down
Horizontal scrolling bar-It helps to scroll the page side ways
Reversing the mouse button
The mouse button can be changed to be either right handled or left handled
Procedure
Click start button
Control panel
Appearance and personalization
Personalization/mouse pointers
Click buttons, choose your preferred hand then apply.
CHANGING DESKTOP BACKGROUND
Click the start button
Click control panel
Click appearance and personalization/appearance and themes
Click change desktop background
Choose your desired background then apply then ok
CHOOSING A SCREEN SAVER WITH YOUR NAME
Click the start button
Click control panel
Click appearance and personalization/appearance and themes.
Click choose/change screen saver
Choose 3D text
Click settings
On custom text box type your desired screen saver then click apply.


RENAMING A FILE OR FOLDER
Procedure
Right click on the folder or file you want to rename
Click on rename
Type the new name then enter.

COPYING AND PASTING ITEMS
Right click on the item you want to copy.
Click copy.
Open the destination where you want to paste the copied item
Right click then click paste.
FINDING FILES OR FOLDERS IN YOUR COMPUTER
Click start button
Click find/Search
Click folders and files
In the find box type the name of your item then click search.
CUT, COPY AND PASTE
These options enables computer user to duplicate or move items from one location to another within the same application or different application.
Copy-duplication of data
Cut-moving of data from one location to the other.
Paste-the command used to transfer the cut or copied data to the required destination.
DRAGGING A WINDOW
Put your mouse pointer on the title bar of the window
Hold your left mouse button and move.
Dragging an icon
Point your icon hold your mouse left button and move

FOLDERS AND FILES
A folder is a cabinet/location where you can keep your files.
A file is a typed and saved data which has information.
CREATING FOLDERS ON THE DESKTOP
Procedure
Right click on the free/open space of your desktop
Move to new then folder and click
Type a name for your folder and press enter.
CREATING SUBFOLDERS
It is possible to create more than one subfolder
A subfolder is a folder inside another folder
Procedure
Open the main folder-right click then click open.
Right click inside the folder you have opened.
Move to new then folder and click.
Type the name for your subfolder and enter.
SAVING A FILE
You can save your files in different locations of your computer.
Saving a file on the desktop.
Open the program you want to type your file.
Click office button/file at the top left Conner of your program.
Click save as.
Click desktop, in the file name box type the name for your file and click save.
SAVING A FILE IN A FOLDER
Click office/file button.
Click save as
Select where you created your folder either desktop/documents
Select your folder then click open at the bottom Conner of your save as window
Click on the file name box and give your file a name then click save.
SAVING IN A SUBFOLDER
Click office/file button
Click save as
Select where you created the main folder either desktop/documents.
Select your main folder then click open.
Select the subfolder then click open
Name your file then click save.
